Whereas in Cornwall we espouse diversity and equality among our common values, and Whereas racism and discrimination sometimes erupt in actions and words in our community and Canadian society at large, and Whereas reports of anti-Asian racism increased by 301% in 2021 in Canada, and Whereas CUREA, the Coalition for Unity, Respect, Equality/Equity for All, works tirelessly to promote racial justice and counter all forms of discrimination, through public education, Now therefore be it resolved that the City of Cornwall invite CUREA to come to the regular council meeting of May 9, 2022, to sign the City's Book of Recognition. This gesture on our part will acknowledge the extreme importance of the work they and other equality-seeking groups do in our community, and it will recognize the role of education in creating and supporting social and civic bonds.
